movie quick hits – extended

realized there are a couple movies that i saw that i forgot to mention

the guardian – decent 90 minute film. unfortunately it was a little over 2 hours long. i specifically remember joe saying “that better not be the end of the movie.” and the movie decided to take joe up on it. the guardian had at least 3 points where i could’ve ended and i’d be satified with it. but it never did.

the prestige – pretty well-acted interesting film. thought the ending was pretty predictable but it still was a thinker. this week’s lost kind of reminds me of it.

crank – take a deep breath before watching it. the first scene is already the climax and it stays that way throughout the whole movie. i liked the movie. made me drive faster and walk more briskly.

stranger than fiction – thoroughly enjoyed the movie. harold crick somewhat reminded me of me. not to the extreme, but i’ve found myself mindlessly counting of endless amounts of stairs and distances. watching the movie again, i notice certain plot holes, but also realize little nuances i didn’t notice the first time through.

movie quick hits

i’ll go over the past few many movies i’ve seen in the last couple months and include a short review. i’ve been meaning to write more about them but, i haven’t made time for it yet. i’ll list them from least to most favorite.

Children of Men – don’t understand the hype of the movie. didn’t think much of the action scenes. the movie made me dizzy.

Smokin’ Aces – can’t recall what this is about. i just remember people getting shot with a sniper rifle.

Freedom Writers – generic story. nothing really surprising. formula works but it was whatever

The Good Shepherd – entertaining at the time but not very memorable now. i honestly have no recollection of what the movie is about.

Pan’s Labyrinth – it may be visually stunning like the critics say but i couldn’t tell because i spent the whole time reading the subtitles.

The Pursuit of Happyness – thought the ending was slightly dull

Breach – i remember thinking, this was better than good shepherd but i can’t recall what breach is really about either.

Music and Lyrics – cute movie. i think i generally like hugh grant movies.

The Departed – thought the movie was great till the end. It ends with a… that’s it?

The Number 23 – I really liked this movie though it seems no one else did. I thought the story was told well.

300 – my favorite movie, gladiator, without a story. i’m confused. *spoiler* (why does the wife need to speak in front of the counsel? couldn’t she kill the guy somewhere else? the one-eye guy is the one that convinces them to go to war, right?) the scenes with a spear are gory and incredible.

Casino Royale – love this james bond more than pierce. first chase scene was incredible. the card playing aspect of the movie is long and predictable. (*spoiler* i mean, come on. when the guy says 10 million buy in, 5 million buy back, it’s obvious james bond is going to lose the 10 million on a bluff gone wrong. and the last hand, obvious what each player has) loved the movie though.

a lot of movies. a lot of money. a lot of time.

on a side note, i saw wicked the other day. the singing was pretty incredible. it’s a very female-based musical. not a lot of strong male singers and i didn’t really like that. i liked les mis more. songs weren’t very memorable. All i remember is the line “wicked… wicked.” they seemed to repeat it a lot. made me want to see the wizard of oz and i did.

but i don’t feel compelled to watch it again.

apparently i have a distinct way of smiling. shouldn’t make fun of the way someone laughs. shouldn’t make fun of the way someone smiles.

how time flies

it’s been about two weeks since my last update. in all honesty, i didn’t realize it was that long ago. i’m writing from the computer lab and as i’m speaking i see a little ticker counting down the end of this session.

i probably won’t stay here long enough to see the end of it

i’m incredibly hungry.

i think having a blog consumes my very soul. at night, before i sleep, i make promises to myself, searching for ideas to post on the blog so my loyal readers would be satisfied. by morning, most of the ideas have faded. i could write about the countless movies i’ve seen in the last couple months. about praise and it’s practice. about people i miss and don’t miss. about how i get phone reception in this basement. or about time.

lately, i’ve been contemplating how tedious sports are. don’t get me wrong; i love playing. but as i was repeatedly returning spin and curve from elliot last saturday, i wondered.. we play to twenty-one, then we start again at zero.

pastor alex is leaving this week. without realization, he became an important piece in my practically non-existant religious life. someone new will come along in time, soon or distant, and the void he left will be filled. i’m old enough to know and understand the cycle of it. there are endings and there are beginnings. people move on and so must i.

but it becomes tedious; the getting-to-know-each-other phase and the feeling-each-other-out phase, starting from zero. it’s time-consuming, frustrating and unproductive.

and sometimes i don’t want to start again knowing it’ll once again stop.

but that’s life. to keep dragging along in the start-again/stop-again. for a moment though, i’m going to just sit back and bask in the bliss that is consistency.

i miss those that aren’t here, and those that are going away. but for now, i’m going to appreciate what i have.
